David Burkhart

David Burkhart is an honors graduate of Yale, where he received his B.A. and M.M. degrees. His teachers include Adolph Herseth, Arnold Jacobs, Robert Nagel, William Vacchiano and Charles Geyer. Mr. Burkhart has served as principal trumpet of the Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose and Jerusalem Symphonies, the Santa Fe Opera, and as acting principal of the San Diego Symphony. His five seasons as an acting member of the San Francisco Opera include many performances as principal trumpet, most recently in Samson and Delilah. He has also taught at Stanford University and San Jose State University. Mr. Burkhart is a member of the Bay Brass, the San Francisco Brass Quintet and the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. A busy freelancer, he performs regularly with both the San Francisco Symphony, with whom he has recorded a dozen CDs, including Mahler Symphonies Nos. 2, 6 and 8, and Opera, with whom he has recorded Symphony at the Opera and DVDs of Mefistofele (principal) and Turandot (principal offstage). He can also be heard on The Star Wars Trilogy with John Williams and A Brass & Organ Christmas at Grace Cathedral.
