John Engelkes has been a member of the San Francisco Symphony since 1981 and a San Francisco Conservatory of Music faculty member since 1985. He has also been a member of the Florida Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and acting bass trombone with the Minnesota Orchestra. Engelkes participated in the Grand Teton Music Festival from 1983 to 1986 and again in 2004. He has given numerous master classes and clinics throughout Asia, Europe and the United States, has been a featured artist at the International Brass Conference and is a founding member of the Bay Brass. Engelkes studied trombone with Jon Hansen, Frank Crissafulli, Don Yaxley and Edward Kleinhammer. He has a B.M. from the University of Northern Iowa and attended graduate school at Northwestern University. In his spare time, he is an avid golfer.
