Shanghai-San Francisco Festival
The Conservatory, in conjunction with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, presents the San Francisco-Shanghai International Chamber Music Festival March 12-16. This is the second installment of a festival inaugurated in Shanghai in May 2011, part of a five-year agreement between the sister-schools to produce annual events in alternating locations. Conservatory students Kate Allen, Joseph Maile, Eric Chin, Pei-Ling Lin and Natalie Raney perform in the Kennedy Center's prestigious Conservatory Project Friday, February 24 at 6 p.m. EST (that's 3 p.m. here in California). You can hear them live here.

2012 Gala Honors Colin Murdoch
The 2012 Conservatory Gala, honoring Colin Murdoch on his 20th anniversary as president of the Conservatory, is set for Tuesday, April 24. Alumnus and San Francisco Symphony pianist Robin Sutherland hosts the evening, with special guests mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, cellist Bonnie Hampton, pianist Jeffrey Kahane and Conservatory faculty pianist Mack McCray.

Faculty Recitals: Cook, Hersh
Voice faculty department chair Catherine Cook performs works by Brahms, Ravel, Montsalvatge and faculty composer David Garner on Friday, February 17. Free, no tickets required! Pianist Paul Hersh and student/alumni collaborators follow with a performance of Schubert chamber works Monday, February 27. Purchase tickets here.
It's a S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G B-E-E!
Six young spellers vie for the top prize in the Musical Theatre Workshop's production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Two free performances take place Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26.

March Master Classes
Watch for extraordinary master classes throughout the month! Acclaimed opera composer Jake Heggie starts things off with a voice master class on Monday, March 5 (purchase tickets here). Cellist Steven Isserlis follows with a visit on Monday, March 12. Part of our upcoming Shanghai chamber music festival, Shanghai Conservatory pianist Li Jian appears on Tuesday, March 13 and violinist Fang Lei on Wednesday, March 14. Baroque oboist John Abberger concludes the coachings on Monday, March 26.
