Saluting Cultural Exchange: Reunion of the First Five Students from Shanghai
at
SFCM Presidential Alumni Council Chair Gary Rust ’83 invites you to join us for this special centennial Alumni Artist Insights event honoring SFCM’s original five exchange students from Shanghai. SFCM alumni Weigang Li, Paner Ying, Chunming Mo, Jue Yao, and Tian Jiang will reunite at the Conservatory for a special performance and discussion about cultural exchange and the important impact of their arrival at SFCM.
The Shanghai and San Francisco Conservatories of Music have cultivated a special relationship since these first students from the Shanghai Conservatory came to study in San Francisco in 1981, only one year after leaders from San Francisco and Shanghai signed the first Sister City agreement between the United States and China. Over the next few decades, many of Shanghai’s most promising graduates have come to the SFCM to continue their training.
