Hiring Process and Timeline

  1. Summer/Winter: Hiring departments submit open positions here

  2. Beginning of Fall semester: Job Fair in 2nd floor Atrium

  3. All students submit On-Campus Employment Application, indicating the position(s) they're applying for

  4. Hiring managers interview, make selections, and submit Student Hire Forms

  5. Hired students submit I9 paperwork to Michael Patterson (mpatterson@sfcm.edu, room 406) or Scott Driver (sdriver@sfcm.edu, room 408-2)


Student Employment Guidelines

  • While school is in session, students may work on campus up to 20 hours per week. Students with multiple campus jobs may be asked to relinquish one of their positions if the total number of hours exceeds 20 hours per week.

  • International Students with F-1 visas must speak with Susannah White (swhite@sfcm.edu; 415.701.7040), International Student Advisor, regarding USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) guidelines about permissible employment.

Marketing and Communications - Freelance Photographer (hours vary, project-based)

Description:

The Freelance Photographer works closely with the Visual Designer to schedule, pick, and photograph events throughout the year from concerts to student life with an expectation of deliverable high-quality photos. Shoots are planned as far in advance as possible, but some scheduling flexibility is required.    

Qualifications:

  • An eye for the bold, beautiful, and engaging
  • Working knowledge of basic photography skills (framing, exposure, focus) as demonstrated in a portfolio of work
  • Ability to work with, manage, and troubleshoot several shooting conditions, including challenging low-light conditions
  • High level of organizational ability; attention to details and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Capacity to adjust to changing priorities
  • Familiarity with photo editing tools such as Photoshop, Paint+, or similar
  • Capability to make quick turn-arounds from shooting to delivery of final product when needed
  • Good interpersonal skills   

Responsibilities:

  • Photograph various types of events on and off site that can be used for marketing materials, the sfcm.edu website, and archival purposes
  • Deliver full-resolution digital high-quality photos that have been color corrected and adjusted as needed for a consistent look and feel in a timely manner
  • Work with the Visual Designer to determine the photographic vision, strategy, and direction for the season
  • Engage with the Student Body to discover and follow leads on opportunities to photograph interesting moments that could be useful for marketing materials and the website.
  • Meta tag photos for easy location in our digital catalog in accordance with current practice
  • Interact with students, faculty, and staff to schedule and take photographs

Salary:

Commensurate with experience

Marketing and Communications - Freelance Videographer (hours vary, project-based)

Description:

The Freelance Videographer works closely with the Associate Director of Content and Communications to schedule, film, and produce videos throughout the year. The type of videos produced change from year-to-year and will be determined in consultation with the Associate Director of Content and Communications but have, in the past, included rehearsal snapshots, teacher appreciation week videos, and student life videos. The videos are produced with the expectation of being placed on our YouTube, Vimeo, and social media channels as well as our website. Shoots are planned as far in advance as possible, but some scheduling flexibility is required.     

Qualifications:

  • An eye for the bold, beautiful, and engaging
  • Working knowledge of basic videography skills (framing, exposure, focus) and audio capture, as demonstrated in a portfolio of work
  • Ability to work with, manage, and troubleshoot several shooting conditions and the knowledge to mitigate difficult shooting conditions
  • High level of organizational ability; attention to details and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Capacity to adjust to changing priorities
  • Familiarity with video editing tools such as Premiere Pro, Vegas Studio, or similar and a working knowledge of capturing and editing audio in a pleasing fashion
  • Capability to make quick turn-arounds from filming to delivery of final product if needed
  • Good interpersonal skills   

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and schedule video shoots in consultation with the Associate Director of Content and Communications
  • Film (capture video and audio), edit, and produce videos from beginning to end that are engaging and demonstrate the spirit of the material being produced
  • Take editorial comments on videos and implement them to create a more refined product
  • Deliver final product in a high-quality format (.mp4), preferably 1080p or higher, that can be streamed well from services such as YouTube and Vimeo and embedded within our Social Media Channels and Website
  • Engage with the Student Body to discover and follow leads on opportunities to film interesting moments that could be useful for marketing, social media, and the website
  • Interact with students, faculty, and staff ‘on-location’ to create an environment that is comfortable and conducive to filming for individuals not generally comfortable with being on camera

Pre-College & Adult Extension Program Assistant

Description:

This position will provide operational support for the Pre-College and Adult Extension programs. 

Qualifications:

  • Background in music with an interest in music education, arts administration, and operations
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with exemplary planning and organizational skills
    Highly adaptable, positive, and patient
    Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
    Ability to maintain strong working relationships with administrative staff, faculty, students, parents, and alumni
    Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Drive Applications
    Ability to work with minimal supervision, take initiative to respond to requests and situations as they arise
    Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for the selected candidate

Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational support for Saturday activities, including but not limited to the setup and strike of venues as requested by the Program Manager and Ensembles Coordinator
    Greet and assist guests in the Pre-College & Adult Extension Office
    Answer, screen, and forward incoming phone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries, documenting and directing to all appropriate staff or faculty
    Intake and monitor absence request forms
    Assist in accurate record keeping
    Perform duties such as filing, scanning, and photocopying of jury forms, grade reports, and final examinations
    Ensure student workstation is tidy and office is stocked with all necessary supplies
    Perform other duties as assigned

Salary:

$14/hr
