Graduating Viola Player Wins International Competition and $10,000
Fresh from graduation, viola player SoHui Yun won first prize at the Washington International Competition for Strings, which includes a $10,000 prize.

Congratulations are in order! SFCM viola player SoHui Yun won first prize at the Washington International Competition for Strings last Sunday. It is a $10,000 prize given out every three years. In addition to the prize money, she will be loaned an instrument worth up to $500,000 for one year.
SoHui Yun graduated from SFCM with an Artist Diploma in May and is a student of Dimitri Murrath. “It is not a surprise that SoHui Yun would receive this type of recognition. SoHui has been an inspiration to the whole viola and chamber music department through her playing and artistry. She always worked incredibly hard, with immense resilience, and her efforts have been rewarded.” Murrath said of his former student.
Past first prizes for this competition have included violists Cynthia Phelps, Roberto Diaz, and Matthew Lipman. Founded in 1948, the Washington International Competition aims to support and assist young classical musicians in furthering their careers. The Washington International Competition for Strings is open to string players 18 to 28 years old who are not under professional management.
