Latest SFCM News

In upcoming weeks, visitors to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) website will be met with a refreshed look and better functionality.

The updated SFCM.edu promises a cleaner design, bolder photography and video, and a smoother user experience—particularly when it comes to navigating the site and accessing it from mobile devices.

“The Conservatory has evolved considerably since we last constructed our website, and this refreshed digital 'front door' better reflects who we are and where we're headed,” said SFCM President David Stull. In the last few years, SFCM introduced curricular programs in jazz and technology, opened its 12-story, $200M+ Bowes Center, and acquired two leading management companies and a legendary record label, among other innovations.

Many of the site’s new features are in response to feedback from focus groups and surveys composed of students, faculty, staff, and other community members. They include:

  • A bolder, more visual newsroom that highlights the latest from across SFCM
  • Improved navigation so site visitors can more quickly access the information they seek by choosing one of three intentions: to study, discover, or experience the Conservatory
  • Enhanced faculty profiles that better introduce SFCM’s world-class faculty and their work throughout the site
  • Clearer performance calendars to more concisely and intuitively communicate what’s coming up
  • Better alliance integration that showcases the work of SFCM’s subsidiaries—Opus 3 Artist, Askonas Holt, and Pentatone—and its arts and community partners

"We put a lot of thought over many months into the new site and we’re excited about a lot of things the new site has to offer,” said James Nelson MM ’22, who studied viola at SFCM and worked on the website project. “I think it offers a massive improvement in navigation as well as promoting and highlighting our excellent faculty. We’ve tried to think of the best ways to guide people throughout the site and remove any guesswork that was previously involved.”
