What is your hometown?

Salamanca, NY

What are you passionate about outside of music?

The outdoors! Hiking, birdwatching, kayaking

Who were your major teachers?

Bill Bennett, Harry Sargous

What is a favorite quote that you repeatedly tell students?

I quote Bill Bennett! " Play as slowly as you can in the tempo you are going"

What was the defining moment when you decided to pursue music as a career?

Participating in All-State Orchestra in high school

What was a turning point in your career?

Winning a one-year position with the Virginia Symphony

If you weren't a musician or teacher, what do you think you would be doing now?

I'd be working in arts administration (which I also do now)

What is your daily practice routine?

Warm up with long tones & scales, then right into repertoire! And reeds require daily attention too.

If you could play only three composers for the rest of your life, who would they be?

Only 3??? So hard to choose but Bach, Mahler, Poulenc

What is your unrealized project?

A double reed quintet: sopranino oboe, oboe, oboe d'amore, english horn and bass oboe. What a sound that will be!

What do you think makes a concert experience unique?

The communal experience of the creation and absorption of the sound. The audience completes the circuit.

Biography

Ms. Reynolds is an active performer and educator throughout Northern California. She is principal oboist with the Santa Rosa and California Symphonies and a member of the Marin Symphony and has appeared as soloist with all three organizations. Ms. Reynolds also performs regularly with a number of other regional orchestras and is a lecturer in oboe at Sonoma State University. A chamber music enthusiast, she is a member of Avenue Winds and was formally with the reed trio Trois Bois, and a founding member of Citywinds, a San Francisco based woodwind quintet dedicated to contemporary repertoire. Ms. Reynolds, a student of William Bennett and Harry Sargous, holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (M.M.) and the University of Michigan (B.M.).
