About Veda Kaplinsky

Yoheved Kaplinsky began her musical career as a prize-winner of the J.S. Bach International Competition in Washington, D.C. A native of Israel, she studied with Ilona Vincze at the Tel-Aviv Rubin Music Academy before entering New York’s Juilliard School of Music as a scholarship student of Irwin Freundlich.

Noted for her insight and understanding of piano technique, she has also been in great demand for lectures and master classes in the USA, Israel and the Far East. Since 1993 she has been the chairperson of Juilliard’s piano faculty. She also instructs at various festivals. She frequently serves as juror of various competitions throughout the USA and other countries. Ms. Kaplinsky served on the jury of the three previous Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competitions.

About SFCM's Piano Department

SFCM pianists study in a focused, energized, and supportive environment. Artist-teachers with a wealth of international performing experience provide close instruction and mentorship to an exclusive group of fewer than 50 students. Performance opportunities within the Conservatory and around San Francisco help prepare students for a career at the highest professional level. Students also have the chance to enter a yearly concerto competition, the winner of which performs with the Conservatory Orchestra. Interdepartmental collaboration, guest artist residencies, and master classes round out a transformative piano education. Recent guest artists include Emanuel Ax, Sergei Babayan, Richard Goode, Stephen Hough, Menahem Pressler, and Shai Wosner.

Vaccinations remain not required for visitors and guests to campus buildings and performances. In any instance where an SFCM community member tests positive for Covid-19, they will be mandated to follow local, San Francisco Department of Public Health guidelines for isolation and quarantine.
