Adam Luftman joined the teaching faculty of SFCM in 2012. Originally from Longmeadow, MA, he is currently Principal Trumpet of both the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet Orchestras.  Prior to moving to San Francisco, Mr. Luftman held positions with the Baltimore Symphony, the New World Symphony in Miami and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He has also been a guest artist with The Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, and Vienna Philharmonic. Adam has enjoyed touring and recording with many of these ensembles.

During summers, Mr. Luftman has performed at the Grand Teton Music Festival, Mainly Mozart Festival, Sun Valley Music Festival, Classical Tahoe, Festival Napa Valley, Tanglewood Music Center, National Repertory Orchestra, National Orchestral Institute, Spoleto Festival, Aspen Music Festival and the Pacific Music Festival in Japan.

In addition to his orchestral work, Mr. Luftman has been a featured soloist with orchestras across the US. He is a member of the National Brass Ensemble, Bay Brass, and San Francisco Contemporary Music Players. Comfortable in all styles of music, Adam has performed with many Bay Area jazz groups and also popular artists such as Common, Ben Folds, Elvis Costello, and The Who. 

Adam can be heard on recordings with the National Brass Ensemble, Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, and SF Symphony, Opera, and Ballet Orchestras. He has also recorded for ESPN Sunday Night Football and on many movie and video game soundtracks recorded at Skywalker Ranch in CA.

Mr. Luftman is also currently on the faculty of Stanford, UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University. He has presented masterclasses all over the country including many of the most prestigious arts institutions in the US. Adam is an honors graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Interlochen Arts Academy. He lives in SF with his wife Reva and daughters Riley and Nora.
