What level of student is appropriate for Summer Programs?
Each program varies by age and requirements. Generally speaking, students with three or more years of serious music study will be appropriate. Admission is by audition and can be competitive; frequently not all qualified students are admitted. We recommend that you check with your private lesson teacher for advice on summer music experiences that best fit your current level.
Are the age ranges strict?
The age ranges listed under each program are generally firm, but please contact us if you are on the outer edges of the range and are interested in applying.
Are there any discounts or scholarships?
Partial financial aid is available to a limited number of students who demonstrate a high level of financial need. To be considered for financial aid, applicants must submit a completed financial aid application along with an official copy of the applicant’s or, if a dependent, the parent’s most recent IRS Federal Income Tax return or IRS Tax Transcript and a statement in support of the request for financial aid.
What are my chances for acceptance?
Admission to Summer Programs is based on each applicant’s abilities as demonstrated in the audition as well as compatibility with other applicants.
How do I submit or arrange an audition?
Complete the online registration for the application class, which charges a $50 non-refundable application fee. Once received by our office, we will contact you via email with the audition submission process or live audition time options as applicable.
Do my audition pieces have to be memorized?
The answer varies by program. Applicants to the Gilbert & Sullivan Scenes and Vocal Academy programs should present their selections from memory. All other auditions do not require memorization, though applicants are welcome to perform from memory if they prefer.
When and how do we hear about the audition results?
We make every effort to notify applicants of audition results as soon as possible. Please note that it is necessary to complete all of the auditions for a given program before the committee will announce their decisions. You will be notified by email at the earliest opportunity. We strive to have all notifications made at least one month in advance of the program start date.
Does SFCM require COVID-19 vaccination for participation?
Up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination and booster is required for all those participating in Summer at SFCM programs. If you are unable to get vaccinated due to a medical reason, please email email@example.com.
