Historical Performance Presents: Orlando by Handel
Opera Historical PerformanceOne of Handel's most experimental and unusual operas, Orlando explores the age-old theme of how love makes us miserable. The warrior Orlando loves Angelica, who doesn’t return his love, leading him into madness in some of Handel’s most stunning music. This production is presented by the SFCM Historical Performance program, and features students from both the Voice program and Baroque Ensemble.
Performances of Orlando, by George Frideric Handel, take place on Saturday, April 12th at 7:30 pm and Sunday, April 13th at 2 pm. See below for the cast of both performances:

About SFCM’s Historical Performance Department
Historical Performance at SFCM traverses all eras of music history, allowing for an environment that enables the study of period performance practice and produces contemporary performances that are relevant, vibrant, and provocative. In this program, which offers a professional studies diploma in historical performance and bachelor's and master's music degrees in harpsichord and organ and master's and professional studies diplomas in baroque violin, viola, cello historical plucked strings, and viola da gamba, you’ll develop and refine your skills in historical styles. Historical Performance opportunities are open to all SFCM students, and our acclaimed Baroque Ensemble performs regularly throughout the year.
About SFCM’s Voice Department
Find your voice—and your community. A tight-knit group, voice students work closely with all-star faculty who have performed at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Paris Opera, Milan’s La Scala, and many others. As a student at SFCM, you'll have the opportunity to regularly attend dress rehearsals at the San Francisco Opera and take advantage of performance opportunities around the Bay Area.
