The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) and Opus 3 Artists are pleased to announce another year of their internship program, carrying on a partnership that connects Conservatory students directly with the professional music industry.

SFCM's Rachel Schlesinger, a Voice student studying with César E. Ulloa, will join Opus 3 Artists this spring as its latest intern. Schlesinger will assist in the booking, marketing, and publicity departments within Opus 3, gaining valuable experience and knowledge of the inner workings of one of the world's leading artist management companies.

"It's been incredibly valuable to see firsthand how artist representation and tour planning operate behind the scenes," Schlesinger said of the internship so far. "I'm looking forward to continuing to learn how strategic management supports artists over the long term, and I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the industry that will inform my own growth as a performer."

The internship, lasting for the duration of the spring semester, is designed to be a unique opportunity for students to gain real-world experience in the music industry and hone skills under the mentorship of top industry professionals.

"Opus 3 Artists is delighted to continue our successful internship program with SFCM," Opus 3 Managing Director Robert Berretta said. "Previous participants have enjoyed a rare look inside the inner workings of one of the world's leading artist management companies through projects with managers as well as our booking and marketing team. We look forward to giving Rachel, this semester's intern, an invaluable first-hand experience in collaborating with the people managing the careers and touring activities of many celebrated performing artists and ensembles."

This internship is the latest in a long list of exciting collaborations via SFCM's unique family of industry-leading arts organizations that benefit the student experience. In 2023 the inaugural pair of interns with Opus 3 Artists, Joshua Choi and Yuki Yokota, were announced, and in 2024 SFCM's partnership with Askonas Holt grew stronger with its first intern, Lindsey Ha.

Overseeing the internship at SFCM is Kristen Klehr, Assistant Dean of SFCM's Professional Development and Engagement Center (PDEC). "We recognize that the music industry offers a variety of career paths, and SFCM is providing students with unparalleled exposure to the ecosystem of our music industry today," Klehr said. "Under the umbrella of Professional Development, these internships work as a direct opportunity stemming from SFCM's growing alliances, all working towards preparing students for the career of their choosing."

Opus 3 Artists is one of the leading artist-management companies in the world, counting artists ranging from Yo-Yo Ma and Branford Marsalis to SFCM alum Teddy AbramsAcquired by SFCM in 2020, Opus 3 is a wing of the growing SFCM alliance that includes artist-management company Askonas Holt and venerable record label PENTATONE. The internship showcases the unique advantages SFCM students have through the alliance—aside from the most visible ones, like the steady flow of performers represented by Opus 3 and Askonas Holt who come to the Conservatory for residencies and masterclasses.
