Composer Bios
Dallas-born composer and classical guitarist, Ian Alexander, is a dynamic composer and passionate performer. He believes that music is the universal bond that allows people of all ages to feel like they are more than just observers but part of the experience. For the past 10 years, he has been learning and developing his compositional skills while continuing to solidify his musical identity. Additionally, he enjoys playing classical and flamenco guitar, either solo or accompaniment, in both concert and informal settings. He is currently studying under Jonathan Bingham while finishing his BM at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and is planning to get his masters in composition in Europe going forward.
Jacob Katz is a dedicated LA-based composer/ Sound Designer for film, television, and concert music. He has composed for numerous short films, re-scored many existing films, and written and recorded scores for live orchestra.
Jacob started his composing endeavors in electronic music. His goal to compose for film, drove him to connect his knowledge about electronic music and incorporate orchestral scoring. he is now pursuing a B.A. in Composition at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Noah N. Zubia-Sanchez, an emerging Latin-American artist in the composition landscape, captivates global audiences through his music, streamed on Spotify and Apple Music. Driven by a deep-rooted passion for music composition, Sanchez defies Eurocentric norms, infusing his distinctive style with the diverse and captivating flavors of Latin music. His journey in composition began in late high school, where self-teaching, fueled by the boundless resources of the internet, laid the foundation for his musical aspirations. Further honing his craft, Sanchez immersed himself in a three-year program at the Coil School for the Arts, Riverside City College, studying under the tutelage of Dr. Steven Schmidt. Currently on the brink of completing his undergraduate studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the mentorship of Dr. Mason Bates.

Prize-winning faculty develop and refine the skills of the next generation of great composers. The composition department both honors tradition and encourages innovation. Our four versatile faculty members closely mentor students while maintaining high-profile composing careers. We strongly emphasize interdepartmental collaboration, matching composers with performers, as well as offer frequent concerts and readings of student works. Every year, SFCM hosts the Highsmith Competition, an internal composition contest that grants the winner a performance of the submitted work by the Conservatory Orchestra.
