Artist Profile

Heralded as a leading interpreter of the great classical masterworks, international concert violinist Rachel Barton Pine thrills  audiences with her dazzling technique, lustrous tone and emotional honesty. With an infectiou joy in music-making and a passion for connecting historical  research to performance, Pine transforms audiences’ experiences of classical music.

This season, Pine’s performances include concerts with the  Vancouver Symphony, Sacramento Philharmonic, the Tel Aviv Soloists, the Orquestra Sinfónica Nacional de Costa Rica, The Eugene Symphony and Symphony Nova Scotia. She will offer the world premiere of Marcus Goddard’s Violin Concerto with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

In January 2018 Avie releases Pine’s recording of the Elgar and Bruch violin concertos performed with the BBC Symphony, conducted by Maestro Andrew Litton. Pine will dedicate the album to the legendary musician and conductor Sir Neville Marriner, with whom she was originally scheduled to record the project. Pine and Sir Neville’s first project, Mozart: Complete Violin Concerto, Sinfonia Concertante, with The Academy of St Martin in the Fields, hit number three on the Billboard Classical chart. Her Testament: Complete Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin by Johann Sebastian Bach (Avie, 2016) and Violin Lullabies (Cedille, 2013) both charted at number one, and her Bel Canto Paganini: 24 Caprices and other works for solo violin (Avie, 2017) charted at number four.

Pine has appeared as soloist with many of the world’s most prestigious ensembles, including the Chicago Symphony; the Philadelphia Orchestra; the Royal  Philharmonic, and the Netherlands Radio Kamer Filharmonie. She has worked with such renowned conductors as Charles Dutoit, Zubin Mehta, Erich Leinsdorf, Neeme Järvi and Marin Alsop.

She performs on the “ex-Soldat” Joseph Guarnerius del Gesu (Cremona 1742). rachelbartonpine.com
