Yakov Flier; Lev Vlasenko
What is a favorite quote that you repeatedly tell students?
To have an artistic freedom you must have a technical freedom.
What question do you wish students would ask sooner rather than later?
What is music about?
What was the defining moment when you decided to pursue music as a career?
From very early childhood music was the only world I could connect myself with. Can’t imagine my life outside of it.
If you weren't a musician or teacher, what do you think you would be doing now?
Would love to paint, but unfortunately don’t have any gift for it!!!! Even if the art of painting is my second love.
If you could play only three composers for the rest of your life, who would they be?
Schumann, Beethoven, Chopon
From a music history perspective, what year and city are most important to you, and why?
Connected with music history, my favourite is Vienna. One of the best museums in the world the Kunst Historische Museum is there. And the Schonbrunn Palace - it’s like a museum, the most beautiful place in Europe, I believe.
What is your unrealized project?
Visit to my country, Armenia.
What do you think makes a concert experience unique?
You are bringing to the listener the world someone else created. So you are recreating it.
