A father with dementia, a daughter living his dream, and the music that gave them freedom. Join leading scientists and musicians for a live virtual event and performance considering the power of music, improvisation and the resilient brain.
This is the third in a series of events between the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) and U.C. San Francisco (UCSF) Memory and Aging Center (MAC) and the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) -- a partnership exploring music, science and the brain. Presenters will consider the relationships of music, improvisation and the resilient brain.The event will include live talks, music and dance.
Join a cross-disciplinary group of musicians and scientists to:
- Hear the story of a singer, her father, and how music connected them in the midst of frontotemporal dementia (FTD)
- Learn about exciting new research suggesting that lifestyle factors can slow the progression of brain disease and positively affect brain health
- Explore the creation and reinterpretation of a song in different musical styles and how this is reflected in the brain
- Consider how improvisation in music, lifestyle, and society enhance experiences and build resilience
