Q&A

What is your hometown?

Oceanside, CA

Who were your major teachers?

James Markey and Dr. Bradley Palmer

What is a favorite quote that you repeatedly tell students?

"The world may not need another bass trombone player, but the world will always need musicians, artists, and creative people..." - Dr. Bradley Palmer

What question do you wish students would ask sooner rather than later?

"What is the most essential element to becoming successful in this field?" The answer isn't what you might think it is.

What was the defining moment when you decided to pursue music as a career?

When I heard the SFS recording of Mahler's 9th Symphony I knew this was the career path for me. It's even more special to me that I get to be a part of the orchestra which inspired me to pursue it in the first place.

What was a turning point in your career?

Going back to school to complete my MM degree in 2024 while having a full-time position in the SLSO was a turning point in my career. It was a great reset button for me that enabled me to refresh myself, rediscover my drive for excellence, and to meet so many wonderful students who are now friends.

What do you think makes a concert experience unique?

A concert is a moment in time in which people from all walks of life come together to experience the same music yet leave with different effects. For me, a concert is about more than just music. It's about an opportunity to realize no matter what you believe in or what is going on in your life that all of us as people share something in common with one another.

What are your most important collaborations?

I am co-founder of the Southwest Trombone Conference, I currently play on my own signature series mouthpiece designed by Ultimate Brass, and I will be releasing my debut solo album in spring 2025 with the wonderful pianist Tatiana Muzanova.

What recordings can we hear you on?

"In Dreams" (2025), "Tres Amigos" by the Santa Fe Trombones (2021)
