As an institution located in San Francisco’s urban arts and tech district, we take safety and security seriously. Our closed campus configuration allows access only to students, faculty, staff, and guests throughout normal operating hours. In your first days at SFCM, you’ll be given an access badge that must be shown to Conservatory security each time you enter the building. Your badge also gives you access to practice rooms and other areas at SFCM. All guests must sign in and note the nature of their visit. It’s important we know who is coming and going so that we can provide the safest environment for learning. The campus is closed overnight.
SFCM’s housing facility, the Panoramic, follows a similar procedure. A keypad outside the building allows access only to residents, and guests must sign in at the front desk. Be sure to let the building’s security know you’re expecting friends when you host a get-together. The Panoramic is less than a 10-minute walk from campus, so getting to and from the Conservatory is a breeze.
The Annual Campus Safety and Security Report contains information about specific crime activity that may occur on campus and on public property immediately adjacent to campus. The report uses data gathered annually by our Campus Security and the San Francisco Police Department and is updated on or before October 1 of each year.

Emergency Planning
The Injury and Illness Prevention Plan, a work-in-progress that is reviewed by our Safety Committee, contains information regarding safety programs at the Conservatory. This document is intended to provide guidance for identifying, reporting, and responding to hazards, potential emergencies, and other situations that can interfere with our work environment.
Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP)
The Emergency Action Plan provides instructions for responding to emergency situations that may occur, such as a fire, earthquake, or threat of violence. Every student, faculty, and staff member should familiarize themselves with protocols such as our earthquake and evacuation response procedures.
Title IX Training
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal sex/gender equity law that governs how educational institutions receiving federal funds must respond to allegations of sex and gender-based discrimination, harassment, violence and/or retaliation.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights issued new Title IX regulations (34 CFR §106) on May 6, 2020, which dictate how institutions must respond to incidents of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking. In accordance with 34 C.F.R. § 106.45(b)(10)(i)(D), which requires campuses to post training materials for Title IX coordinators, Title IX decision-makers, Title IX investigators, and all who implement informal resolution processes, please see the training materials utilized by SFCM.

SFCM Alerts is a mass notification system that allows for dissemination of critical information via mobile push notifications, voice, text, and email to students, faculty, and staff. SFCM has partnered with Everbridge to provide this service. All collegiate and pre-college students and employees are automatically enrolled with their campus email address. AlertSF
AlertSF is a text-based notification system for San Francisco’s residents and visitors. AlertSF will send alerts regarding emergencies disrupting vehicular/pedestrian traffic, watches and warnings for tsunamis, flooding, and citywide post-disaster information to your registered wireless devices and email accounts. Registrants can also sign up to receive English-language automated information feeds and/or alerts targeted to specific areas of the city.
