What is your hometown?
Chicago, IL
What is your favorite recording?
It changes, but right now I can't get enough of Chris Cornell's rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Thank You," recorded live in Canada in 2011.
What are you passionate about outside of music?
I like to stay active by jogging, playing tennis, and hiking.
What question do you wish students would ask sooner rather than later?
"Do I have an effective thesis statement in my essay?"
If you weren't a musician or teacher, what do you think you would be doing now?
I'd either be writing or editing somewhere, or running a restaurant with my friends.
If you could listen to only three composers/performers for the rest of your life, who would they be?
At this stage in my life, I would pick Dave Matthews, Alicia Keys, and Frederic Chopin.
From a music history perspective, what year and city are most important to you?
The ‘80s: Prince, The Police, Talking Heads. I got my own radio in the ‘80s and haven't stopped listening since.
What is your unrealized project?
I'd love to write a book of fiction someday.
