¡Felicidades! First time nominee Stewart Rosen has won his first Latin GRAMMY with his music group, Tinto Tango. The ensemble won Best Tango Album with their recording, Tinto Tango Plays Piazzolla. The double bass player attended the awards in Las Vegas in late November, where he accepted the award in person. “Thankful for my brothers in Tinto Tango! Thanks to everyone who listened to our record and to everyone who believed in us. What a feeling!” Rosen said of his big win.
Rosen graduated from SFCM in 2014 aftering studying double bass with Professor Scott Pingel. To this day he credits Mr. Pingel as one of his biggest musical mentors. “I still reflect on my lessons with Mr. Pingel even years later. I felt as though his goal was not just to help me become a great orchestral bassist, but also a well-rounded musician,” Rosen said when he was nominated earlier this year.
Tinto Tango is a Los Angeles-based Argentinean tango ensemble. Rosen has been playing with the group since 2017. Stewart is also the Principal Bassist for Los Angeles Chamber Music Company. He has also performed with the San Francisco Symphony, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, Bakersfield Symphony, Desert Symphony, and Symphony Silicon Valley.
