Those who turned into the 2025 GRAMMY’s saw SFCM and its alliance partners winning big during the biggest night in music!

SFCM professor and Director of Recording Services Jason O’Connell won for his production work on the San Francisco Symphony’s Saariaho: Adriana Mater in the Best Opera Recording category. This is the second time he’s won at the GRAMMYs.

“I am deeply honored to be part of the team that won the 2025 GRAMMY Award for Best Opera Recording,” O’Connell said. “I am grateful for the many opportunities I have to deepen my relationships with SF Symphony musicians through my work at SFCM. Our school is not just a training ground for students—it’s a place where faculty and staff continue to grow as well. These extraordinary opportunities would not be possible without the support of this remarkable community. Thank you to my colleagues and students for inspiring me every day and pushing me to be my best.”

“Working alongside Esa-Pekka Salonen, the incredible musicians of the San Francisco Symphony and Chorus, and their exceptional technical staff has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” he added. O’Connell first won in 2021 in the Best Classical Compendium category for his work on From The Diary Of Anne Frank & Meditations On Rilke by Michael Tilson Thomas.

SFCM’s alliance partners are also celebrating several exciting wins. Opus 3 Artists, which SFCM acquired in 2020, won awards. Congratulations to the 2025 GRAMMY winners, Nicholas Phan, Béla Fleck, and Mason Bates (also on SFCM faculty), whose composition Resurrexit is included on the Best Engineered Album, Classical recording by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra!

SFCM has a long relationship with the Recording Academy. Recent winners include faculty Awadagin Pratt and Mason Bates. In 2021 members of the Recording Academy visited SFCM to utilize its state-of-the-art sound and studio equipment to help judge the awards.

Congrats to all!
