Biography

Amanda Hahn has been teaching music and directing choruses in a variety of Bay Area schools and organizations for 25 years. She is currently the choral director and a music specialist in Ross Valley Schools in Marin County, where her focus is the Middle School Chorus. She was the the Lower Division Director for Marin Girls Chorus for 12 years, has had ongoing appearances as the director of adult community and church choirs, and is a devoted private teacher of her flute, piano, and voice students. In her rehearsals, she looks for ways to reach every student through her engaging style, enjoying their eagerness to explore music from all angles, dig in deeply to their musicianship, and really do their best.

Amanda is excited to be back at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she received her Master of Music degree. She has participated in intensive training courses with internationally renowned teachers to help round out her work, including the Orff Schulwerk teacher certification courses, masterclasses on Integrating the Arts, among others, and the Kodály conducting course at the Kodály Center at Holy Names University. She freelances as a flutist, choral singer and conductor. One fun project culminated in conducting the International Space Orchestra Chorus, opening for the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós at the Hollywood Bowl. She lives in San Rafael with her family—her husband Kevin Gerzevitz, a jazz pianist and music educator; their son Owen, a dancer and drummer; and their sweet kitties Jasper and Jackimo.
