Q&A
What is your hometown?
Cupertino, CA
What is your favorite recording? Why?
L.A.G.Q. by Los Angeles Guitar Quartet - The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet was my favorite ensemble to go see with my mom as a young guitarist.
What are you passionate about outside of music?
Cooking delicious meals for family and friends.
What question do you wish students would ask sooner rather than later?
Which recording do you recommend I listen to before learning this piece?
What was the defining moment when you decided to pursue music as a career?
Music had always been a major part of my life growing up but I wasn't sure how I wanted to apply it as a career. I entered college as a Liberal Arts Major with a focus on elementary education and quickly realized that I was only interested in studying and teaching music.
What was a turning point in your career?
I started teaching Suzuki guitar shortly after college as a way to spend the summer before graduate school. I quickly fell in love with teaching and the connections I made with the students and their families. Those relationships were a huge turning point in my career as a classical guitar instructor in the Bay Area.
If you weren't a musician or teacher, what do you think you would be doing now?
Literary Critic
If you could play only three composers for the rest of your life, who would they be?
J.S. Bach, Agustín Barrios, and Andrew York
What is your unrealized project?
Teaching in the Pre-College Division at SFCM has always been a career goal of mine, and I am thrilled to be here working with the incredible students and faculty.
What do you think makes a concert experience unique?
How the artist connects with the audience.
Biography
Angelica knew she wanted to learn to play the guitar after seeing The Sound of Music when she was five years old. Angelica was a student of Beth Hilton, Frank Longay, Sharon Wayne, and Marc Teicholz. In addition to the guitar, Angelica studied violin and classical voice, performing at Carnegie Hall with the National Youth Choir.
