Glitz, glam, and live music all for a good cause: SFCM raised more than $1.3 million to support scholarships at this year’s gala, part of efforts that enabled 100% of full-time students to receive merit aid this semester.

The SFCM community and donors came together to celebrate the new Bowes Center during a gala that included special performances and a dinner at the new building on November 12.

More than 300 guests attended the event which included the world premiere of Mason Bates’ Hymn for the Future featuring Yo-Yo Ma.

The performance at the Caroline H. Hume Concert Hall at the Getty Center also included the world premiere of Aaron Jay Kernis’ Fanfare Efflorescent!, commissioned in honor of William K. Bowes, Jr. and performed by the SFCM Brass Ensemble featuring students and members of the San Francisco Symphony, and Bay Area-inspired tunes by the SFCM Roots, Jazz, and American Music Ensemble with Artistic Director Joshua Redman.

After the performance guests were taken to the new Bowes Center for dinner and an array of special and unique student performances.

The event was presented by sponsors Chi-Foon Chan and Rebecca-Sen Chan, Ken Hao and Kathy Chiao and corporate sponsor Harry Winston.
