Pre-College Alum Wins 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant

Kevin Zhu (Pre-College ’14) is one of five recipients of the 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. The Avery Fisher Career Grants are worth $25,000 and are designed to give professional assistance to young musicians who are deemed to have the potential for a major career. Zhu was a student of Li Lin while studying in the pre-college division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Past recipients of the Avery Fisher Career Grant include Joshua Bell, Anthony McGill, Hillary Hahn, and SFCM alumni Alexi Kenney (Pre-College ’11) and Jay Campbell (BM ’08). 

Twenty-year-old Zhu has become a leading figure in the next generation of great violinists. A winner of the 2018 Paganini Competition and 2012 Yehudi Menuhin Competition, Zhu regularly performs on the world’s greatest stages, including New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Festival Hall, and Beijing’s Forbidden City Concert Hall.
