Judge Bios

Laura Reynolds is an active performer and educator throughout Northern California; Principal oboist with the Santa Rosa Symphony, California Symphony, and second oboe and English horn with Marin Symphony. She also performs regularly with other regional orchestras and the Bay Area wind quintet Avenue Winds.  Reynolds is a member of the applied faculty of Sonoma State University as well as of the Pre-College and Continuing Education Divisions at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she additionally works as senior program manager. A graduate of the University of Michigan and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, her principal teachers were Harry Sargous and William Bennett.

Jonathan Seiberlich has become a prominent member of the San Francisco Bay Area’s vibrant music scene. On any given night you may hear him perform with the the Santa Rosa Symphony, Merced Symphony, Fresno Symphony, Stockton Symphony, playing solo at MacArthur BART Station, performing with the Nomad Session wind octet, the Tamalpais Brass Quintet, with Brass Magic, the Jazz Mafia Collective, Circus Bella, electronic dance music with Balkan Bump or singing his original music with his band Jensen Engineering.

His musical endeavors have taken him across the world, from performing for rural schools in the mountains of El Salvador, to placing 3rd in the International Tuba Quartet Competition with the USC Thornton Tuba Quartet at the International Tuba and Euphonium Association Conference in Austria.

In addition to performing, Jonathan is the Tuba Faculty at San Francisco State University, is a faculty member at Cazadero Performing Arts Camp and a director for Turning Deserts into Forests, a non-profit focused on finding new efficient ways of irrigating agriculture, organizing large scale reforestation projects and helping rural communities in Africa conserve water.

Jonathan was born and raised in Concord, CA, and began his musical studies at Los Medanos College. He then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Tuba Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory, and a master’s degree in Tuba Performance from the University of Southern California. He has studied with Peter Wahrhaftig, Ron Bishop, Jim Self, Norm Pearson, Doug Tornquist, Roger Bobo and Zachariah Spellman.
 

Divesh Karamchandani is a San Francisco-based percussionist performing regularly in chamber music and large orchestral projects throughout the Bay Area. Karamchandani is the Principal Percussionist of Opera Modesto and One Found Sound, a San Francisco conductorless chamber orchestra. His other notable performances include the New Century Chamber Orchestra, Stockton Symphony, Monterey Symphony, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, San Francisco Symphony and Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera.

Karamchandani is an advocate of contemporary music and seeks to champion works by diverse composers. He is a co-founder of Prism Percussion, a duo that explores the expressive colors of percussive sounds by underrepresented composers. Through his solo ventures and his involvement with Prism Percussion, Karamchandani has been a participant of many commissioning consortiums. His arts advocacy work drove him to join the Board of Directors for the New Works Project, a non-profit organization promoting equity in commissioning and performing new music by lowering financial barriers and increasing representation.

Karamchandani graduated in 2012 from California State University (CSU), Stanislaus with a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance and Instrumental Music Education. In 2014, he graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Master of Music in Percussion Performance. He studied under the tutelage of Jack Van Geem, Jacob Nissly, James Lee Wyatt III, Chris Woodham and Allen Brown.

Karamchandani was recently appointed as the Director of Percussion Studies at both CSU Stanislaus and CSU East Bay, in addition to working as an adjunct Professor of Percussion at West Valley College. He maintains a private studio at the French American International School. He is also a Teaching Artist with the San Francisco Symphony’s Music and Mentors program which provides weekly group lessons to music students in San Francisco public schools. Karamchandani’s educational impact has garnered him an endorsement as a Marimba One Educational Artist.
