BM Concentrations

BM Concentrations

SFCM offers optional Concentrations in four areas: Leadership, Teaching, Technology, and Historical Performance. Concentrations are an opportunity to focus on an area of interest and build a larger skillset to take with you upon graduating. Once completed, your Concentration will be indicated on your transcript, so your efforts will be visible to future employers and graduate programs.

Each Concentration requires 12 credits, which may include those applied to your degree as PDV, TAC, and/or general electives. Specific Concentration requirements are shown below (subject to change). Current SFCM students can retroactively apply completed coursework towards a Concentration, where applicable.

To declare a Concentration, students must:

  • Be pursuing a BM (Bachelor of Music)
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Have written permission from their academic advisor AND private instructor

Specific Concentration requirements are shown below (subject to change).

If you are interested in pursuing a Concentration, please complete this form.

Contact Dean Ryan Brown ( eoebja@fspz.rqhude.mcfs@nworbr ) for more information.

This only applies to RJAM undergraduates, who have required TAC electives. TAC majors pursuing a Concentration in Business or Teaching cannot substitute the courses required in those areas for TAC courses required for their BM. TAC majors are ineligible for the Technology Concentration.
