POSITION SUMMARY

The Social Media Intern is responsible for coordinating and executing American Bach Soloist’s social media strategy, working across key social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn. This role will be instrumental in increasing our social media presence and gaining visibility for our brand among patrons and donors. The intern must be available to attend at least one performance per set, as well as other events as determined.

PROJECTS/DUTIES

  • Assist with streamlining company social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media platforms), ensuring uniform content and tone of voice for landing pages, graphics, and other elements within the communities. 
  • Increase the number of followers we have on Twitter by following and engaging with potential patrons and donors. 
  • Monitoring and replying to Tweets from patrons and donors.
  • Posting Tweets on a daily basis; and using tools like TweetDeck to plan forward-looking Tweets over weekends and holidays. 
  • Posting updates to the Company LinkedIn account.
  • Liaising with staff internally to ensure that their company profiles are accurate and up-to date. 
  • Posting updates to the Company Facebook account. 
  • Build Facebook ‘likes’ by approaching potential patrons and donors through other social media channels and email marketing campaigns. 
  • Implement other channel-specific campaigns (e.g. uploading photos to Instagram, videos to YouTube, etc.) 
  • Repurpose content from other sources for our own social media channels (and understand how to change the tone of the content for each channel). 
  • Increase the number of followers we have on Twitter by following and engaging with potential patrons and donors. 
  • Help to create one piece of video content per month and post on YouTube.

According to their interests and availability, interns will have the opportunity to assist in Berkeley Symphony’s box office, marketing, development, and production activities.  Past projects have included arts database management, communications content creation, events support, and audience development initiatives. The Interns will be included in Berkeley Symphony’s day-to-day operations as a valued member of the team!

  • Assist with updating and reorganizing the website for Cutting Ball Theater for the 2017-2018 Season as well as archived and informational pages in conjunction with the Managing and Producing Director.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of social media strategies to engage patrons with Cutting Ball’s 2017-18 season and to strengthen general branding for Cutting Ball Theater. This will include assisting with the creation of social media season calendars detailing weekly/daily posts on our various platforms (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) as well as designing and implementing said posts.
  • Intern will assist with roll out of show-based marketing materials and the marketing plan for The Mineola Twins, Variety Pack and Timon of Athens
  • Assist administrative staff with day-to-day operations of The Cutting Ball Theater, including but not limited to: mailings, copying, filing, archiving, and other tasks as needed.

Mercury Soul

Position Summary

Mercury Soul is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that engages a new generation of listeners through performances combining live classical music and electronica in alternative venues with immersive stagecraft, elaborate production, and digital education. We are looking for an enthusiastic intern that has an interest in various aspects of non-profit arts administration, particularly in marketing and promotion. Mercury Soul is planning two performances in the semester. The intern would work with the General Manager (Marko Bajzer), Marketing Manager (George Hurd), and Artistic Director (Mason Bates).

Projects / Duties

While Mercury Soul has a diverse audience that ranges from high school students to the elderly, its target audience is engaging young people in order to demonstrate how fulfilling and timeless this music is in addition to helping ensure the future of the genre ("young" by classical music standards being younger than 50). In that sense we are marketing to our peers, and the primary project of the intern would be to do the same: create and execute a marketing campaign specifically aimed toward university level students. The intern will work with Mercury Soul staff to identify what motivates people to attend performances, figure out how and when they receive information, and design (using photoshop) and disseminate materials that cater to the target audiences sensibilities. Additionally the intern will learn about social media advertising, public relations, and personnel coordination among other things. Closer to the events the intern will also manage our volunteers as well assisting other aspects of the production based on need and interest.

Position Summary

Join the Oakland Symphony Development Team for a truly hands on internship. The Development program is responsible for $1.3 million of Oakland Symphony’s $2.1 million annual budget. The Development intern will receive hands on experience in the fast paced fundraising world. From day one, she or he will have crucial responsibilities such as member correspondence, creative projects, and guaranteeing the integrity of the Symphony’s growing donor database. The intern will also be able to learn more about other parts of the organization through volunteer opportunities and group activities.

Projects / Duties:

As the intern grows into their position and shows the ability to succeed, we will add additional projects that will help the program reach new levels. The Development intern will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and build a true professional presence through: 

Event Planning & Management: Support Oakland Symphony’s two major annual

POSITION SUMMARY

PBO's Education Internship is an unpaid position of up to 5 hours per week that introduces the Intern to Education Program administration. There will be opportunities to interface with PBO administrators, Education Committee members, Guest Artists, and Education Partners. Work deadlines and obligations may be managed around SFCM schedules and performing activities. Under the guidance of the Education Director, the Intern will be given opportunities to maintain PBO's continuing relationships and engage new participants in the Community Access Partnership (whereby PBO offers complimentary concert tickets to partnering charitable organizations) and the Student Access Initiative (whereby PBO offers complimentary concert tickets to partnering schools). The Intern will also be given opportunities pursue additional outreach programs that may be of personal interest.

PROJECTS/DUTIES

  • Under the Director of Education's guidance, reach out to continuing and new CAP and SAI partners; track complimentary ticket requests; and arrange ticket distribution with PBO's box office administrator.
  • Attend Education Committee meetings about 4 times per season as SFCM school and performance schedules allow; report about SAI and CAP programs and any additional projects that have taken shape during the Internship.
  • Assist with program outreach via email flyers and announcements to schools.
  • Update PBO's Ed Partner database during the summer, and as necessary during the season.

Position Summary

The San Francisco Early Music Society (SFEMS) is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented intern. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in administration and development in the arts, while having a chance to attend concerts given by world-renowned and rising stars of early music. This is a remote, work from home position, with required onsite presence at season concerts (dates listed on website). Hours are approximately 5 hours/week. Days and times are flexible, and will be predetermined between the Director of Development and the intern.  

The San Francisco Early Music Society is a community-based organization dedicated to increasing public appreciation for historically-informed performance of early music. The Society emphasizes three areas of activity:

  • Concert presentations of primarily medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music
  • Education programs that encourage the development of amateurs of all ages and increase public involvement and participation, while supporting professionals

The San Francisco Early Music Society (SFEMS) Box Office seeks an enthusiastic and friendly intern for the Berkeley Festival & Exhibition.  The Berkeley Festival runs June 3-10. SFEMS hosts world-class early music artists and ensembles.

This position averages around 5-10 hours per week and is work-from-home (WFH). SFEMS Box Office hours are Monday-Thursday mornings 9-11:30am. The position requires attendance at each performance throughout the festival. There are typically 2-3 concerts per day in the morning, afternoon and evening.

This internship allows one SFCM student each semester the opportunity to work closely with San Francisco Opera’s Artistic and Music Planning Department to gain experience working for and observing a world class arts organization in both full production and planning mode.

Projects / Duties

Responsibilities : Assist SF Opera’s Artistic and Music Planning Department with projects related to season planning, contracting, auditions, casting, scouting, and more. All projects will have explicit goals and
students will have the opportunity to see projects through from beginning to end and to propose new projects for the department’s consideration. Specific duties will include:

  • Provide assistance in grant reporting, specifically for support of community engagement and innovation work.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of company general audition sessions and developing a tracking and review management system for review of submissions and candidates.
  • Assist in artistic social media activities including the creation of special initiatives and content with artists and creative teams on SF Opera media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blog, etc.).
  • Assist with special projects and research including the creation of an artistic operations project management system and new works research.
  • Assist with artist services requests and special events involving company artists.
  • Labor relations research.

Position Summary

We offer the internship programs at the SF Opera during the Summer and Fall "in" seasons and the spring "out of" season.

During the season: This position will give you the opportunity to learn about multi-camera and single camera production as it applies to image magnification, live video capture and HD broadcast television. You will also participate in the planning, shooting, creation, and distribution of short format video that the company produces for Promotional and Educational needs.

During the "off" season: This position will give you the opportunity to learn about multi camera production, editing, distribution, and how it applies to HD broadcast television, DVD and Cinema. The intern will work with and assist the Senior Manager, Electronic Media, as well as the video and sound crew. While there are no live productions on stage during the spring, during this time, our focus is creating the products that will be used for company promotion and branding, both on our websiteand on Social Media platforms. This internship would focus around assisting with these processes of media product and organizing the archival of past products. You will assist in reviewing and tagging archival video and audio. You might also possibly be part of the workings of a streaming project that is in the creative works.

The ideal candidate should be a self-starter, work well with people and have an interest in film/video production. Candidates should have an interest in media asset management programs like Premiere. You should be comfortable and able to work in broadcast production which at times can be very fast paced. An interest in opera and the ability to read music may be useful, but is not necessary.

San Francisco Symphony (Archives)

Position Summary

The San Francisco Symphony Archives Department is offering internship opportunities for students to implement a selection and appraisal process for our historic live concert recordings. This project will be focused on selecting the most historically significant recordings during Michael Tilson Thomas' era as Music Director at the SF Symphony. Students will learn about audio preservation, and will get a detailed look at MTT's artistic programming, particularly during his first ten years as Music Director.  Students will work with two professional archivists to complete this project. They will gain a detailed knowledge of special events, composers, works, and historic moments in classical music history such as world premiere performances and unique musical collaborations. They will become familiar with the works and American composers that MTT actively promoted and endeared audiences to.

Projects / Duties

Using criteria established by our Artistic Department, Music Librarians, and some of our musicians, students will connect our inventory of recordings with programming information, and identify recordings that have high historic value. They will use our performance history database and Excel-based inventories as primary tools. Students will work closely with the two archivists in the Archives Department, and with the Media Asset Manager who manages the Symphony's Library of Sound Recordings.

Instrument Coaching Intern: The San Francisco Symphony supports orchestra and band programs in SF's public middle schools and high schools by providing professional Teaching Artists who work closely with site music teachers at each school. The Instrument Coaching Interns assist the site music teachers and Teaching Artists in the delivery of pedagogical and support services. Positions will be available based on requests from site music teachers and Teaching Artists.

Projects / Duties

Weekly visits to a selected band/orchestra program, working with beginning or intermediate level musicians, primarily in single-instrument group coaching (e.g., class of beginning violins). Specific duties will be geared to the needs of each class, including areas such as instrument assembly and tuning, technique, sound production, fingering, correct instrument placement/posture, embouchure, instrument care, and other areas as designated by site music teachers and Teaching Artists. The internship includes orientation, ongoing support, feedback/reflection, and consultation in conjunction with the SF Symphony Education Department, site music teachers and Teaching Artists.
